Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved warns they must ‘make the most of the opportunities’ against Villarreal in the Champions League and have ‘newfound belief’ with January buys.

“Villarreal are a team that allow very few chances, so we have to make the most of the opportunities we do get, otherwise we will struggle,” Nedved told JTV.

Although this is the first time Villarreal have made it into the Champions League Round of 16 in 13 years, they are the reigning Europa League holders and Unai Emery has an excellent record in that competition.

“Emery has a lot of experience in European football and we need to be very wary.”

The Bianconeri have won seven of their last 10 European away fixtures, and five of the six group games this season, but that was interrupted by a 4-0 thrashing against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“We are not dragging along any memories of that game. We must be ready for whatever we find this evening, which will no doubt be a tough test.”

Juventus are a different side compared to the group phase, because Dusan Vlahovic and Denis Zakaria were brought in, selling Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur to Tottenham Hotspur.

“There is a newfound belief after the January transfer window,” added Nedved.

“The results have not arrived lately, but we’ve seen the performances on the field. We also know that in the Champions League we must do much more.”
