The Bianconeri lost the first leg of their Round of 16 to Atletico Madrid, 2-0 away from home, turning it around with a 3-0 home victory.

“We want to do better than in Madrid, as that result really was tough to overturn. We know Ajax create a great deal, but also allow spaces at the back, so we want to get a better result than in Madrid,” Nedved told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s a wonderful atmosphere and it’s great to experience games like this with these sensations.”

Federico Bernardeschi is in the starting XI with Cristiano Ronaldo and Mario Mandzukic.

“I expect further improvements from him. He has already made giant leaps forwards, including in terms of mentality and what he does off the field. He’s got it within him to do better and we therefore can expect more. He’s got to get that out of himself.”

Ronaldo makes his comeback three weeks after picking up a thigh injury while on international duty with Portugal. Is he ready?

“He already had a training session two days ago when he hit free kicks really hard, so we realised then that he was ready to play. It was a muscular problem, so we were worried, but he is simply not human. He lives for football and these are the results.”

While Ronaldo has returned, Emre Can and especially captain Giorgio Chiellini are absent.

“Chiellini is probably having the best season of his career. We will certainly miss him, but it mustn’t be an alibi. We have Daniele Rugani and Leonardo Bonucci, they’ll make their mark.”
