English papers claim Fernando Llorente is close to Manchester United, but Italian and Spanish reports point him towards Napoli, as Mauro Icardi continues to stall.

The former Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur striker is a free agent after his contract expired, so can sign for any club, even after the transfer deadline.

According to various English reports, Llorente is seriously considering a two-year proposal from Manchester United, where he’d replace Inter-bound Romelu Lukaku.

However, Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and Spanish paper Sport all believe Napoli are the outright favourites for his signature.

The only reason the Spaniard hasn’t committed to them yet is that the Partenopei are waiting for Icardi.

Even though Inter would hand Icardi over to Napoli for €65m plus bonuses and made it clear he has no chance of playing this season under Antonio Conte, the striker is still refusing to leave for anyone except Juventus.

It is increasingly likely Maurito will remain in the stands for six months until the January transfer window opens and wife Wanda Nara published several pictures and videos on social media last night of the Icardi family partying with the rest of the Inter squad for Lautaro Martinez’s birthday.

She added blue and black emojis to each one, to reiterate their commitment to the Inter colours.

Napoli are running out of patience, but will try to hold on until the weekend, claim Sky Sport Italia.

If there is still no hint of an opening from Icardi, then they will lock down Llorente.
