The Vesuviani’s third-place finish in Serie A last season has them in this preliminary round of the competition, bidding for a place in the Group stages of the UEFA competition for a consecutive season.

Rafa Benitez’s side are one of the seeded outfits in the League route of the draw, and can be drawn today against one from Athletic Bilbao, Lille, FC Copenhagen, Standard Liege and Besiktas.

Of these five teams, Napoli have only ever previously faced Standard Liege, playing twice before and collecting a draw and a defeat.

The two-legged Play-off round will be played on August 19-20 and 26-27, with winners from the Champions and League routes joining 22 automatic entrants.
