Atletico Madrid right-back Sime Vrsaljko could be heading back to Serie A in January for Napoli.

The former Sassuolo man had already been linked with Napoli, Milan and Inter over the summer, but opted for a €16m switch to Diego Simeone’s squad in Spain.

He has struggled for playing time and the Croatia international is reportedly reconsidering his decision after just one Liga appearance.

According to Rai Sport, Napoli are stepping up their attempts to sign the 24-year-old Croatia international mid-season, on loan with an option to buy.

The Partenopei will lose Faouzi Ghoulam to international duty when Algeria take part in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Another alternative for Napoli was Matteo Darmian, but the Manchester United man seems to be on the verge of a move to Inter instead.
