With Kalidou Koulibaly heading to Chelsea, Napoli are reportedly ready to replace him with Lazio veteran Francesco Acerbi, although there are other options.

Multiple sources in Italy are confident Koulibaly will complete the move on Wednesday for €40m including add-ons, signing a contract worth over €8m per season.

The question now becomes replacing such a key figure in the Partenopei defence, who has been their rock since his arrival in 2014.

Sky Sport Italia point towards a rather surprising candidate, Lazio veteran Acerbi, who is looking for a new experience after his rapport with the local ultras hit rock bottom.

He is 34 years old and an Italy international, who was also linked with Milan and Monza over the summer, and would be available for circa €5m.

Acerbi represents only one of the reinforcements, as the other is Leo Ostigard from Brighton and Hove Albion for circa €5m plus bonuses.

Other alternatives mentioned are more expensive, as Napoli don’t want to get into a bidding war with Rennes for Fenerbahce’s South Korea international Min-jae Kim.

Another candidate is 22-year-old Maxence Lacroix of Wolfsburg, who only moved from Sochaux in August 2020.
