Napoli ‘firmly condemn’ clashes involving their ‘presumed fans’ on the A1 motorway and urge Italian Government to take ‘appropriate action’ following the example from English football.

Napoli and Roma’s ultras travelling north for their away games against Sampdoria and Milan on Sunday clashed on the A1 motorway causing queues of circa 8km and making some genuine fans late for the matches.

“Napoli firmly condemn the acts and behaviours of some presumed fans, who unfortunately still attend Italian stadiums, causing danger problems to real fans,” Napoli said in an official statement on Monday.

“Even terrifying, as happened yesterday on the A1 motorway, people who were completely unrelated to any football support.

“England in the 1980s uprooted troublemakers from the stadiums making English football the safest and most spectacular in the world, with drastic but effective measures. We hope that the Interior Minister, Matteo Piantedosi, will take appropriate and radical initiatives once and for all.

“It would be unfair, because of a few hundred individuals, to ban everyone from away games, but it is unacceptable that violent people can travel undisturbed through Italy and attend stadiums.”

2 thought on “Napoli say Italy must follow England in dealing with ‘troublemakers’ after fans’ clashes”
  1. Most of the fans who were implicated for heys£l still attend games. they were never reprimanded by LFC.

  2. it is ridiculous that these kind of brawls are still taking place. With a concerted effort by the Govt, the police, the Lega and the teams it could be stopped. It’s such a shameful advert for the country too.
