Il Mattino are reporting today that the Spanish international is not prepared to cut down from his current €4.5m salary received at Liverpool, which for the past year during his loan spell at Napoli, has been split between the two clubs, with the Vesuviani paying out €2m of it.

Whilst the club have made clear their ambition to keep hold of the goalkeeper beyond the expiry of his loan deal this summer, it is understood that they have hit two significant financial barriers.

Reportedly, Liverpool are unwilling to lower their asking price for Reina, nor offer him out on loan once more, and the 31-year-old is described as also unwilling to lower his wage demands.

With the club’s current wage bill at €75m and participation in the Champions League group stages not assured until late summer, the club are seen as reluctant to pay top price for Reina, leading to Il Tempo’s conclusion that the goalkeeper will move on elsewhere in the summer.
