David Ospina –  7

Had no saves to make but was called into action to dive down at the feet of Sadio Mane and then came rushing out of his box to expertly clear the ball before Mohamed Salah could get onto it.

Nikola Maksimovic – 7

Came in for Elseid Hysaj who has had a poor start to life under new boss Carlo Ancelotti and defended stoutly. He may not have crossed the halfway-line but did exactly what was asked of him.

Raul Albiol – 7

Organised and marshalled what was at times a three-man defence and made a number of timely interceptions.

Kalidou Koulibaly –  7

Was immense in both halves but in particular the first half where he kept Mo Salah quiet and won everything that came his way. Pushed his team forward in the second when they went in search of a goal.

Mario Rui – 6

After being sent off in his last game against Juventus he had to put in a good performance to make up for and he did. Barring a couple of moments when he failed to control a pass he kept pushing on and delivered one excellent cross for Dries Mertens to smash a shot off the crossbar.

Allan – 7

Warrior in midfield, warrior in defence, warrior in the final third. Is probably one of the most hated players around by opposition midfielders.

Fabian Ruiz –  6

Played slightly out of position on the left side of the three-man midfield and put in a decent tactical shift. Had one shot that stung the palms of Allison.

Marek Hamsik – 6

Had to put in a big performance after his limp display against Juventus last weekend and started the game off with a lot more energy than recent games. Tired in the second half and was replaced.

Jose Callejon – 6

Was constantly involved but lacked that cutting edge until he delivered the pass for Lorenzo Insigne to finish. Had one shot cleared off the line.

Arkadiusz Milik – 6

Was favoured over Dries Mertens to add more height and physicality and tried his best to get involved, had one decent snap shot that Allison dealt with comfortably. Forced Alisson into a smart save in the second before coming off for Mertens.

Lorenzo Insigne – 8

Went narrowly close early when his low shot crept past the post. Kept hustling to find space between the lines then stepped up to give his hometown the three points at the death.

Substitutes:

Simone Verdi – 6

Replaced Fabian Ruiz and had one off balanced attempt that went high and wide. His fresh legs added some extra zip to the Napoli attack.

Dries Mertens – 7

Came on for Arkadiusz Milik with around 25 minutes to go and hit the crossbar from close range. Then his reverse pass wide on the right released Jose Callejon to cross in for Insigne.

Piotr Zielinski– N/A

Came in for Hamsik and sat into the centre of the pitch, held onto the ball and kept things ticking over for the Azzurri.
