Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis said he is in talks over the potential signing of free agent Federico Bernardeschi and hopes Kalidou Koulibaly and Dries Mertens are motivated by more than money.

The Italy winger will leave Juventus when his contract expires on June 30 and no decision has been made public on his next destination.

Napoli are among the sides linked with a move, though both Inter and Milan are reportedly interest.

De Laurentiis told reporters: “I have been speaking to Bernardeschi’s agent for a few weeks.

“I have spoken to [coach Luciano] Spalletti, let’s see how the situation develops.”

De Laurentiis also spoke about the futures of Koulibaly and Mertens, who have been linked moves away from the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium this summer.

The Napoli owner added: “I see sentiment and reason mixed together too often. You can’t always handle these things as you want because there are various interests which the club cannot control.

“I hold them in high esteem and have a lot of respect [for them] but it will depend on whether it is just money that motivates them or if they are ready to make concessions for a club which has given them a lot.”

Goalkeeper Davide Ospina has been linked with a move to Real Madrid while De Laurentiis confirmed the club are in contact with midfielder Fabian Ruiz over a potential extension.

De Laurentiis said: “I have spoken to Ospina and am awaiting a reply and I have made an offer to Fabian’s agents an am awaiting a reply.”

Napoli have already announced the signing of left-back Mathias Olivera as well as Frank Anguissa on a permanent deal.
