Napoli could offer Rafael Benitez a ‘Spain clause’ allowing him to leave to take over La Roja should he sign a contract extension with the Partenopei.

There has been much speculation about the future of Benitez, with the tactician’s current deal expiring in the summer.

It had been thought in some quarters that the Spaniard would leave the club, though reports yesterday suggested the two parties where moving closer to an agreement.

According to Il Mattino, Benitez had initially planned to return to the Premier League, where he enjoyed success with Chelsea and Liverpool, as the Coach’s children go to school there.

However, the newspaper suggests that Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis could offer the former Valencia Coach a new two-year deal.

Apparent terms to that contract would then include a get-out clause should the Spanish national team job be available after Euro 2016.

The Neopolitan paper insists this would be the best of both worlds for Benitez, allowing him to build a Napoli side in his own image while also allowing the tactician to then leave for the Spain job, with an international post allowing the 54-year-old to spend more time with his family.
