Napoli have released a statement challenging a report from Corriere dello Sport that claimed Rudi Garcia left training early due to the rain.

The Rome based newspaper reported this morning that the French coach left the training pitch early during the session on Sunday in order to watch from the comfort of his office during a downpour. It was also claimed that president Aurelio De Laurentiis and the coach’s staff stayed on the touchline.

Garcia has been under increasing pressure after Napoli’s disappointing start to the season, having won just six of their opening 11 games. Antonio Conte was heavily linked as a replacement but the former Italy boss chose not to join in the middle of the season.

Napoli released a statement this evening challenging Corriere dello Sport’s report, noting that Garcia did not leave the session early despite the claims.

“Napoli specify that the article reported today by ‘Il Corriere dello Sport’ and then taken up by the official website of the same newspaper and other websites, regarding Garcia’s alleged return to the offices during yesterday’s training session, is not true.

“The coach, in fact, conducted the entire session uninterruptedly from the pitch.”

Napoli are gearing up for their Champions League clash against Union Berlin on Wednesday evening.
