The local authorities have ruled tonight’s Coppa Italia game between Napoli and Cremonese will go ahead as planned, despite problematic weather conditions.

It is due to kick off at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona at 20.00 GMT.

There are heavy storms in the Campania region today, with rain and strong winds wreaking havoc on travel and infrastructure.

The situation was so bad that there were reports this evening’s match could be postponed over public safety fears.

According to Il Mattino and Sky Sport Italia, there was an inspection of the stadium and pitch from the local authorities, who decided the game could go ahead as planned.

Another alternative would’ve been to play without letting fans into the arena, but the gates are going to be open and circa 30,000 people are expected.

Police have been stretched thin today as it is in Naples, including emergency services rushing to the scene when strong winds blew scaffolding off a building that is undergoing restructuring work.

Large trees have also been knocked down by the storms and blocked busy roads.
