Napoli are reportedly close to Empoli’s Lorenzo Tonelli, beating Lazio and Fiorentina.

The centre-back has impressed for the Tuscan side over the past two seasons, and has been heavily linked with a move to the Biancocelesti.

However, Calciomercato reports that it’s the Partenopei who are now in pole position, with the defender having agreed in principle to make the move.

It would be a reunion with Maurizio Sarri, the Coach who led Empoli to Serie A before moving to San Paolo last summer.

It’s thought the Vesuviani are offering €9m for Tonelli, and though Empoli are asking for more the gap is not thought to be unbridgeable.

Sporting director Marcello Carli has already confirmed that Tonelli will leave this summer, and it appears Napoli is now the most likely destination.
