Wolfsburg dropped hints that they could sell Ivan Perisic to Napoli in January for €12m.

The attack-minded winger has been targeted as a potential replacement for Lorenzo Insigne, who is out for five months with a knee ligament injury.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Wolfsburg have opened the door for Perisic to make that mid-season move to the Stadio San Paolo.

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs confessed to reporters that they were interested in Beijing Guoan attacking playmaker Xizhe Zhang.

“We have observed the player and he seems very interesting. It is not yet set in stone, but it may well be that we sign a Chinese player for the first time.”

That would effectively free up Perisic to leave in the January window with Napoli ready to pounce.

Croatia international Perisic is valued at around €8m and has a contract until June 2017.
