Reports from the Campania capital claim Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will soon have to decide between a new deal with Napoli and a high-profile move to Barcelona.

The 23-year-old Georgian winger is still on the same contract he signed with the Partenopei upon his initial arrival from Dinamo Batumi 18 months ago, meaning he earns around €1m net per season, one of the lowest salaries in the squad.

With Victor Osimhen seemingly destined for a lucrative transfer in the summer transfer window, many Napoli fans hope Kvaratskhelia can become the new talisman in the squad. This season, he’s netted six goals and provided four assists in 21 league matches.

Naples based newspaper Il Mattino via TMW details how Barcelona are seriously interested in signing Kvaratskhelia in the summer, believing the Georgian to be a perfect fit for their desired 4-3-3 system. The Catalan giants were already interested in the winger during his breakout season.

Napoli are looking to lock down their star forward to a new long-term contract and the club’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis has been in contact with the 23-year-old’s agent Mamuka Jugeli. No agreement has been reached yet but talks are ongoing and will develop in the coming weeks.

Much now depends on the will of Kvaratskhelia, who’ll need to decide whether he wants to commit his future to Napoli or try to push for a high-profile transfer to Barcelona.
