Napoli and Hellas Verona have been given the all-clear to travel for tomorrow’s Serie A games against Juventus and Spezia despite COVID-19 outbreaks, as the vaccination status allows them to avoid quarantine.

The campaign is set to resume on Thursday January 6, a public holiday in Italy, with 10 fixtures planned throughout the day.

However, there were fears the local health authorities (ASL) would intervene to stop travel or order squads into quarantine after a slew of new positive tests.

It seems the situation has been calmed by the latest Government decree, which means those who had their second or third vaccinations within the last 120 days do not need to quarantine when they have been in close contact with someone who tested positive.

Those who have completed the vaccine treatment more than 120 days ago must quarantine for five days.

That is a big change from October 2020, when Napoli were banned from travelling to Turin for another game against Juventus, and means they have been given the all-clear to make the journey.

Alex Meret and a member of staff tested positive today, after Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti, players Hirving Lozano, Victor Osimhen, Mario Rui and Kevin Malcuit.

Meanwhile, Verona have already travelled for their game with Spezia despite having eight players and two members of staff test positive for COVID-19 this week.

They have not been named.

The only ASL that intervened so far has been in Salerno, where Salernitana’s entire squad was ordered into quarantine for 10 days after nine players tested positive.

It is possible they do not have the same level of vaccination within the group to warrant avoiding the quarantine order.

The Lega Serie A has not recognised the travel ban on Salernitana, just as they did not recognise it for their game against Udinese on December 22.
