Radja Nainggolan felt Roma ruined their Champions League night at BATE Borisov with that bad start. “There was no complacency.”

The Giallorossi were 3-0 down within the opening half-hour, but fought back for a 3-2 result and were denied an equaliser by the crossbar.

“We had a few shots in the first half, but didn’t finish them properly. We weren’t balanced enough and they made the most of the spaces we left,” Nainggolan told Mediaset.

“We had a few shots in the first half, but didn’t finish them properly. We weren’t balanced enough and they made the most of the spaces we left,” Nainggolan told Mediaset.

“Obviously it then became difficult, but we were aware we had to fight back and it’s a shame, as I feel we deserved a point.

“If we had a different start, it would’ve been a very different game. We knew what we had to do, it’s just that we didn’t do it very well. Now we have to see what went wrong. Clearly we should’ve done better.

“We knew it would be a tough game, so there was no complacency, but if we had played the first half the way we did the second, it would’ve been different.

“It’s our fault, we are aware that it was a game of two halves that we should’ve played for 90 minutes. We just have to take this as a lesson and try to learn for the next time.”

Barcelona fought back to beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1, so Roma are now bottom of Group E with one point after two games.

Barcelona have four, Bayer Leverkusen and BATE Borisov three apiece.
