Nainggolan has been linked with lucrative transfers to the aforementioned trio over the past couple of years, but the Belgian ultimately stuck with Roma, where he admits he is most ‘happy’.

“Inter? There was interest from them because the Coach rates me and vice versa, even if you wrote 1,000 stories about it… but let’s forget it,” he told Il Tempo.

“I’ve always had a good relationship with Spalletti, he put me in the best condition to express myself, but ultimately there was no chance that I’d leave Roma.

“It’s not that I didn’t want to go there. There was interest but nothing concrete. There was no offer, yet it was claimed ‘Spalletti’s bringing Nainggolan, Strootman etc with him.’ It was mostly paper talk.

“China? There was a little something, although nothing serious. I’d be a liar if I said money didn’t interest me. I am 30…

“However, the truth is that in the past, I rejected important offers. Two years ago I could’ve gone to Chelsea and earn more, but for me it’s not all about money.

“I mean, it’s one thing to say: ‘I’m going to have a good time in China and get this money.’ There are people who are willing to do anything just to go and get all that money.

“Other issues to take into account are the level I’m playing at and changing city and lifestyle. I haven’t thought about that yet. I’m happy here and that’s it.”
