Radja Nainggolan insists he and his Roma teammates never doubted Edin Dzeko – “we all knew we had a great striker”.

The Bosnian struggled last year in his first Serie A season, but is leading the scoring charts alongside Gonzalo Higuain and Andrea Belotti this term, with 19 League goals.

“No-one had any doubts about him,” Nainggolan explained to UEFA’s official website.

“Last year he didn’t score like this year, but playing in Italy isn’t easy. We all knew we had a great striker.

“No-one had any doubts about him,” Nainggolan explained to UEFA’s official website.

“Last year he didn’t score like this year, but playing in Italy isn’t easy. We all knew we had a great striker.

“Last year he was unlucky, he didn’t have a proper pre-season which was his biggest problem. Obviously if I were to choose on Dzeko I’d take this year’s one!

“He’s so important for us, he knows how to hold it up and he’s good technically, he moves the ball well. He’s the complete striker and I’m happy to play with him.

“When you have Dzeko in your team, you play with the knowledge that even a small chance could result in a goal.

“We have a lot of important players in the team, and Dzeko is certainly one of them.”

Nainggolan also discussed the importance of Coach Luciano Spalletti, who replaced Rudi Garcia midway through last season.

“I think we have a great Coach, he knows exactly what he wants from the players. He always says what’s on his mind, and I think the team is doing a great job of following his instructions.”
