Radja Nainggolan reflects on his “difficult” upbringing, and says it’s “important for me” to be at Inter.

The midfielder left Roma to join the Nerazzurri this summer, but that was only the latest upheaval in a life full of them.

“My past was difficult, I left Belgium at the age of 16,” Nainggolan explained in Inter’s match programme.

“That's why I want to make sure my children are happy. I always tell youngsters to play with freedom, because that’s what makes the difference.

“I never had footballing idols, I’ve just always liked players with quality. Like Ronaldo, il Fenomeno. I’d watch him, because he could invent things out of nothing.

“Inter? It’s important for me to be here. San Siro is beautiful and exciting, and you can feel the support of the fans like in few other stadiums in Europe.”

Nainggolan also reflected on some of his best goals.

“I’ve scored a lot of important and beautiful ones. The first against Treviso, when I was at Piacenza, a shot from outside the box comes to mind.

“Another which comes to mind is the one against Samp when I was at Cagliari.”
