Shkodran Mustafi has been presented to the Press as a Valencia player and explained his motivation to move from Sampdoria.

The Germany international yesterday completed formalities on a transfer believed to be worth in the region of €10m and today was officially presented to media.

“I want to thank the President and all those involved in my move,” Mustafi began to gathered reporters.

“It is very important to come to a club like Valencia because it is a step forward in my career and I hope that Valencia can also take a step forward as a club and that we can enjoy many successes together.

“I realised that if I was to make a change, then it would be a step forward and that this was important for my youth. I saw all the effort they had done to get me and the history that this club has.

“It was very important to talk first with the Coach to know what he expects from me, before signing the contract, because for a young player this is important.

“[Valencia Coach] Nuno [Santo] is a modern, friendly Coach, young and sympathetic and he left me with a good impression. I have yet to meet my teammates but I will do.

“I am new to this team and I know I am going to have to fight, but I have played in England, Germany and Italy and for me, the experience gained will be important and I will try to contribute to the team with my skills.

“The most positive thing is that I have been in three countries. In England I developed physically, in Italy I learned to defend better and in Germany I developed with the level of my play.

“I believe that this gives me many benefits. I am trying to be a secure player.”

Mustafi also wrote a message of thanks to Sampdoria via social networking.

“I sincerely thank the Coach that has given me confidence and allowed me to grow a lot,” the defender has written on Facebook.

“I thank the Sampdoria fans for having always supported me, especially during difficult moments and especially I thank all the staff and the team that always made me feel part of a big family, because only like this could I give my best on the field, and that’s what I wanted to do every time.

“I will carry you forever in my heart, thank you!”
