Luis Muriel described his sensational goal against RB Leipzig and is confident Atalanta can ‘fight it out’ in the Europa League quarter-final second leg.

The Colombian had given La Dea the lead in Germany with a fantastic strike into the far top corner and Juan Musso saved an Andre Silva penalty, but Davide Zappacosta accidentally bundled a cross into his own net for the equaliser.

Both teams rattled the frame of the goal twice, while Merih Demiral needed a stoppage-time goal-line clearance to deny Nordi Mukiele.

“The goal was good, I enjoyed it, but I would rather it had contributed to a victory,” Muriel told DAZN.

“The draw is a good result, we had the chances to win and so did they, we’ll fight it out for the second leg.

“RB Leipzig are a really good team, we need to play at this level in the second leg and rely more on our attack, which is our main strength. We have what it takes to win.”

Muriel cut inside from the left, squirmed between two defenders and placed a right-foot scorcher into the far top corner.

“When I play in a more central position, the coach asks me to be a reference point, but my characteristics generally are to cut inside from the left to shoot with the right foot. I do that often and fortunately it went well this evening.”
