Ebrima Darboe’s season has kicked off in tragic fashion after the 21-year-old suffered a cruciate ligament injury in Roma’s pre-season friendly against Portimonense.

The 21-year-old midfielder was forced off the pitch in last week’s friendly against Portimonense with a knee injury, leaving the club concerned. The Giallorossi have an unfortunate history of players suffering serious knee injuries, and this case is sadly no different.

As reported by Il Tempo, medical tests have confirmed that Darboe has suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee, forcing him to undergo surgery.

The injury is a real blow to the 21-year-old, who was looking for a club to go out on loan to. Talks with Lille had stalled recently but other clubs were interested. Now, however, Darboe will have to remain sidelined until at least January as he works to recover from the injury.

Contracted to Roma until 2026, Darboe only made five appearances across all competitions last season under Jose Mourinho, providing one assist in that time.

  1. The Olympico stadium is where knees go to get injured 🤕. I’m surprised Dybala was willing to take that route.
