Jose Mourinho told the media during his pre-Feyenoord press conference that Roma know what they have to do to overcome a one goal deficit to qualify for the Europa League semi-finals.

The Giallorssi fell to a 1-0 defeat in the Netherlands last Thursday, but Mourinho remains adamant that his team are capable of scoring two at the Stadio Olimpico in the return leg.

Questions were asked to the Portuguese as to whether his team have been unlucky in front of goal given that Roma have hit the woodwork on 27 different occasions so far this season.

He replied: “We are a defensive team and we have hit the post 27 times, it’s a bit contradictory. But I don’t want to talk about bad luck, we have to be better.

“When you start with them one goal ahead you have to score, these post hits instead concern me less, they give me an opposite feeling because we are capable of scoring.

Mourinho also provided an update on the fitness of Paulo Dybala, who came off injured early into the first leg at De Kuip last week.

“I don’t know if he can play from the first minute, you saw fifteen minutes of him. Afterwards we did low-intensity tactical organisation and we decided to give Paulo another 24 hours to understand if he can or not. Tomorrow we’ll do something intense to understand if he plays or drops to the bench.

“If he starts, maybe he won’t play 90 minutes or maybe he gets hurt after 10. If he starts from the bench and comes on and gets hurt, then you have no other substitutions. For me the decision is more to play or not to play, but it’s not like we have many options.”

There was also an update on Tammy Abraham, who, like Dybala, came off injured during last week’s clash in Rotterdam.

“He’s always fine,” Mourinho said. “He’s a boy who always seems very happy, very positive within the group. I always see him well from a human point of view, then it’s just a case of if he scores or not.”

On the game itself, Mourinho knows that anything less than two goals on the night will not be good enough for Roma.

He continued: “We have to score two more goals than Feyenoord. You spoke about Salzburg, but it doesn’t make sense, because they’re two different teams.

“With or without patience, the important thing is to score two more goals than Feyenoord to win, it doesn’t matter if you score them at the start, the finish, or in extra time.”
