Roma coach José Mourinho complains about the treatment his players get from referees and reveals he warned Bryan Cristante: ‘You are not Leonardo Bonucci, so take it easy with refs.’

The Giallorossi snatched a 2-0 win over Spezia at the Stadio Olimpico yesterday but saw their starlet Felix Afena-Gyan sent off in the second half.

“If you look at how many yellow and red cards we get, we look like a team of killers,” Mourinho said at a press conference after the match, as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Roma are the ninth team in Serie A for fouls committed but rank third for red and yellow cards received.

Mourinho wants his players to be more careful, but, at the same time, he is not entirely happy with the way referees treat his players.

A few weeks ago, he even suggested Nicolò Zaniolo should consider leaving Serie A for the same reason.

During the press conference, the Special One also revealed what he told Bryan Cristante who captained the Giallorossi against Spezia.

“I told him to take it easy with referees because he is not Bonucci, he doesn’t have the same status so he can’t say certain things to the referee.”

Roma now sit sixth in the Serie A table, eight points off a Champions League spot.
