Roma coach Jose Mourinho explains his old Manchester United player Alexis Sanchez was ‘not in his natural habitat in England’ and has rediscovered his form at Inter.

A spectacular goal from the Chile international into the far top corner sealed the 2-0 result last night, allowing Inter to knock Mou’s Roma out of the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

Mourinho had famously described Alexis Sanchez as “a sad man” when they worked together at Old Trafford from 2017-19, ahead of his transfer to the Nerazzurri.

“I spoke with him before the start of the game,” Mourinho told ESPN Chile.

“In England, he was not in his natural habitat. Here at Inter he is happy and where he belongs.”

That was Alexis Sanchez’s sixth goal of the season in 23 competitive games, along with four assists.

Having said that, the Roma coach also complained about the refereeing in this game, as he felt Arturo Vidal had fouled Sergio Oliveira in the build-up.

“It was a great goal and it changed the direction of the game, but there was a foul in midfield at the beginning of the move and the referee should’ve checked it on VAR.”
