The club hierarchy at Bologna have told coach Thiago Motta how many points and in which position they would like to see the club finish at the end of the 2022-23 season before entering official talks over a contract extension.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Motta met with representatives from the club on Tuesday afternoon for ‘initial’ talks, which have taken place slightly earlier than expected as President Joey Saputo will return to Canada tomorrow to deal with unforeseen ‘personal commitments’.

In attendance at the meeting was the aforementioned Saputo, along with CEO Claudio Fenucci, technical director Giovanni Sartori and sporting director Marco Di Vaio, as well as Motta, of course.

According to the report, Motta has been set a target to finish the season on 52 points and for Bologna to retain its current position in eighth place in the Serie A table.

In order to achieve the club’s goal, Motta and Bologna will need to pick up seven points from their remaining six matches against Empoli, Sassuolo, Roma, Cremonese, Napoli and Lecce, which equates to 1.16 points per game.
