Inter have a better chance of signing Matias Silvestre than Milan this summer, says Palermo chief Maurizio Zamparini.

The Argentine defender has been linked with both clubs seeing as the Nerazzurri will sell Lucio, while Alessandro Nesta has quit the Diavolo.

“There was an enquiry from Inter a few days ago,” Zamparini told Radio Radio. “We’ve also registered timid interest from an English club and a German team.

“He won’t be going to Milan though because the Rossoneri’s policy is to sign out of contract players.

“Seeing as Silvestre’s asking price is high they will never sign him – otherwise they would have got him last summer.”

The Stadio Barbera outfit netted the 27-year-old from Sicilian rivals Catania for a fee of around €7m before the start of this term.

“We’ll have to make a decision on Silvestre is the coming days,” Zampa continued. “We are well covered at the back, but if we were to sell him then we would have to sign a replacement.”

The President also added that Siena’s Emanuele Calaio and Franco Brienza were not transfer targets, while Federico Balzaretti is set to remain.

“He’s asked me to stay so I’ll renew his contract for another three years. He’ll only leave this club if Paris Saint-Germain make a bid.”

The defender’s wife works in the French city as a ballerina.

Palermo will be bossed by current Siena tactician Giuseppe Sannino next term.
