Former Inter President Massimo Moratti assures failure to qualify for European competition is ‘not a drama’.

The Nerazzurri were defeated by Juventus at San Siro on Saturday, leaving them as rank outsiders to qualify for the Europa League this season.

“It’s not a drama,” Moratti said when asked about the situation at the Football Heroes exhibition.

“We hope to take a positive out of not being there, which is to prepare well for the League. Five year plans are nice, but the fans won’t accept them.

“The gap to Juventus is big, but Inter will try. All teams have good times and bad, we must work hard, be patient and hope that luck can help us.

“As for the transfer market, everyone will do their best, we’ll look for players with experience and youngsters who could explode, and with luck a great team can be built.

“[Coach Roberto] Mancini expected more from the team, he’s doing his best, and with a little more grit, personality and character perhaps better results can be achieved.”

Under Moratti, Inter became the first and so-far only Italian team to attain the treble of the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Champions League.

However, Juventus have the opportunity to emulate that this season, and Moratti believes they have to try.

“Everybody wants to get something fantastic, it’s right that Juve try. We had terrific players in the year we won the treble.”

When Moratti was asked if he had any advice ahead of Juventus v Barcelona, he referred back to the old rivalry.

"Advice for who, Barcelona?"
