Much has been said this summer of the Dutchman’s tactical position now that Gian Piero Gasperini has taken over at San Siro.
His 4-3-3 system does not include a spot for a trequartista, so Sneijder is finding himself in a deeper role.
“The way I see it, Wes just has to relax, as he can play anywhere in the Inter midfield. He just needs to convince himself of that,” Stankovic told Sky Sport Italia.

“He is not at all my competitor for a midfield place, as I do not see my teammates as rivals. Gasperini is spoilt for choice this season, as we have a great squad.
“We play so many games between Serie A, the Champions League and Coppa Italia that nobody can think about playing every single one. Well, nobody except Javier Zanetti!”
There was an overhaul in attack during the final days of the transfer session, as Samuel Eto’o was sold to Anzhi, making way for Diego Forlan and Mauro Zarate.
“I wish Eto’o the best, as he was a great champion with us both on and off the field. Forlan does not need an introduction. He was the player of the World Cup and the best in the Copa America. He’s proving his worth in training, too.
“Zarate is also a great signing and, as a fellow ex-Lazio player, I hope he can win as much with Inter as I have,” continued Stankovic.
“Mauro just needs to stay calm and not get too emotional, so he can focus on doing what he’s capable of. He doesn’t need to prove anything to anybody, as he’s already a champion. The squad will certainly help him.”
Stankovic is ready to face Palermo on Sunday evening, despite coming off during international duty with Serbia midweek.
“After 15 minutes I got a knock to the head and continued playing, but towards the end of the first half I started to feel sick. My head was spinning and my sense of distance was a bit shaky.
“At half-time the doctor said it was better I go to hospital for tests, which after two hours were all clear.”
