Alvaro Morata has explained his motivation to join Juventus, as well as the Bianconeri’s ambition against Atletico Madrid tomorrow night.

The Turin outfit head out to the Spanish capital this midweek for the second round of group stage action in the Champions League, with a former Real Madrid in their party.

“I think it will be very difficult,” Morata has commented this week on Onda Cero.

“We know that Atletico Madrid are one of the strongest teams in Europe in recent years and they certainly play well, but we go there with the intention of winning.

“Is there a special motivation for me? All Champions League games have a special motivation because it is a great competition and any opponent motivates me and makes me want to play.

“Juve has always been one of the biggest clubs in Europe and those that play against us know that they are playing against a great team.

“This year we have played very well in the League and we go to the Vicente Calderon with the desire to win.”

Morata netted his first goal for Juventus at the weekend, following a difficult start to life in Italy having suffered an injury in his first training session of pre-season.

“It’s been a difficult summer for me, a couple of difficult months, but now they are behind me. From the moment Juventus knocked on my door I did not hesitate.

“They were the first team interested in me, whilst there were many teams interested, even in Spain. They have been trying for me for a long time, from when I was not doing well, and this stayed with me.

“I knew that Juve were one of the great clubs of Europe and the best club in Italy. Here I can improve myself, in my position and in other positions. I am happy.

“The Coach often speaks to me and tells me what I can improve from a physical and tactical point of view, I am learning a lot.”

Real Madrid hold a buyback clause in their agreement with Juventus, but it is not something the 21-year-old is focused on.

“In Madrid there were five or six options open to me. It was important to feel part of a team. I am totally grateful to Real Madrid and it is thanks to the academy that I managed to play with the club in La Liga.

“Everyone at Real Madrid knows that I have special affection for them. They helped me to get to where I am today.

“Right now I am at Juve, I want to have a great year, then we will see.”
