The midfielder is a former Rossoneri captain, but he’s been totally frozen out by Gennaro Gattuso and hasn’t played since the first pre-season friendly.
Silvio Berlusconi and Galliani took over Monza in the summer, and it has been suggested that the veteran could restart his career there.
“This squad was built by the previous owners, Berlusconi’s Monza starts from January,” Galliani told Monza News.

“There will be a very important transfer campaign, but we’ll talk about it when the time comes.
“Montolivo? That’s a fantasy football name, not least because in January we’ll have [Marco] Fossati and [Filippo] Lora with us, so we’re set in midfield.
“We asked Atalanta for Matteo Pessina, but they won’t let him go.”
