Silvio Berlusconi has not been impressed with Monza’s start to their debut Serie A season, noting that he’ll ‘have to take care of them again.’

The Lombard side currently sit bottom of the league table after the first six games, picking up only one point from a 1-1 draw with Lecce. The team finished fourth in Serie B last year but achieved promotion through the play-off bracket, but things have not gone to plan yet in the topflight, despite a busy summer transfer window.

Speaking to RTL 102.5, Berlusconi reacted to Monza’s poor start to the season and suggested that he’ll become a little more involved in proceedings.

“In my opinion the way things are on the pitch must change. The players who make up the squad are good, at Serie A level, so I think I’ll have to take care of them again now, as I did at the beginning of the Serie C and Serie B seasons when I gave the team the right approach.

“We’ll see if we can make Monza do well in Serie A, as I believe we can.”

Monza have not looked impressive in their opening six fixtures and they’ll need to turn things around soon if they want to avoid being sucked into the relegation battle.

As things stand, it’s hard to imagine coach Giovanni Stroppa enjoying his panettone in Monza by the time Christmas rolls around.
