The Serie A match between Monza and Sassuolo had to be suspended for several minutes so that a travelling supporter could receive treatment in the stands.

The hosts were leading 1-0 at the 62nd minute when the referee received notice from the officials that there was a problem behind Michele Di Gregorio’s goal.

According to DAZN, a Sassuolo supporter in the travelling party had taken a nasty tumble down the stairs and required immediate treatment.

Ambulance crew rushed over and the gates were opened to allow them full access to the stricken fan, so play was halted for five minutes.

Fortunately, initial reports suggest the Sassuolo fan is conscious and the condition is not life-threatening, so he has been taken to hospital for further treatment.

Il Messaggero website claims the fan fell over a railing diving the home fans from the locals.

As it is a very small set of supporters in the away end, the incident was fortunately spotted quickly and help called over.
