Martin Montoya insists ‘I came to Inter to win the League’, following his move from Barcelona.

The full-back has joined the Nerazzurri on a two-year loan deal, and was officially presented to fans and media this afternoon.

“I came to Inter to win the League,” Montoya explained.

“We have the same desire to do well, and to win. It wasn’t easy to leave Barcelona, as that’s been my home for 15 years, but I’m happy to join a big club like Inter.

“The project excited me, and I want to win things. We really want to fight and to win, I hope the team can return to being what Inter was a few years ago.”

Montoya also gave his opinion on the differences between La Liga and Serie A, where Spanish players have struggled in the past.

“Italian football is very tacticial, but from what I’ve seen the competitions are quite similar. There’s a lot of focus on tactics here, but we’ll [also] play good football to entertain the fans.

“I certainly have a lot of desire, I want to play because at Barcelona I didn’t get much space.”

The Spaniard attracted criticism on his arrival, for saying he’d like to return to Camp Nou one day, but the defender backtracked on those words today.

“Those words were misconstrued,” Montoya insisted.

“I’m here to play. I want to win at Inter, and that’s the present for me.

“At Barcelona we had four full-backs in recent years, I came here to play more. A player must prove his worth every day, then it’s up to [Coach Roberto] Mancini to decide.”
