Riccardo Montolivo will play no further part in Milan’s season, after surgery to remove pins from his leg.

The Rossoneri captain broke his leg in a pre-World Cup friendly last summer, and returned at the end of November in the 2-0 win over Udinese.

However, the midfielder has struggled with a number of muscular injuries since then, making just 10 Serie A appearances.

Now Milan Channel is reporting that the 30-year-old will miss the rest of the season, after undergoing surgery to remove pins in his tibia from the broken leg.

The Diavolo are 11th in the table, with nothing to play for in their remaining four games, and it appears they are keen to make sure Montolivo is fighting fit for the start of next season.
