Vincenzo Montella admits Siena made Fiorentina sweat yesterday evening, as he rejects the idea that Udinese will be light semi-final opponents.

La Viola will face the Zebrette in the last four of the Coppa Italia after defeating Siena 2-1 on Thursday evening.

Despite a comfortable first 45, Montella’s men were made to work to find a winner in the second half.

“Is the Cup a primary objective? Just as all the games are,” began the Coach in reflection of the win post-match.

“And we try in every game we are delighted to have now reached the semi-final, overcoming a tough and difficult opponent who made us sweat more than expected.

“Now we will play another important game against another very difficult opponent [Udinese].

“Is it better to meet Udinese than Milan? When you arrive in the semi-finals, you are there on merit and if Udinese have eliminated Inter and Milan, clearly they can create difficulty for us.”

Montella was asked for an update on Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi’s respective recoveries.

“Nothing new today, we wait a visit for Rossi next week, with Gomez we can see a glimmer, but the intention is not to take unnecessary risks.”
