Montella, who played for Samp from 1996-1999 before a loan in 2008, looked ahead to the match and admitted: ‘our opponents don’t love me’.

“It’s strange to restart the season with a derby, it’s a match like no other,” he said at today’s Press conference.

“I played in it a lifetime ago, now I feel it less. But in the city it’s different, everyone is talking about it.

“Our opponents don’t love me, that is quite well known. It’s a shame to arrive at this match with the league table looking like this.

“A lot has changed compared to a year ago, but then from the first whistle you forget everything.

“We need clarity of mind and the desire to win more than anything else.

“Genoa? They’re doing worse than I expected, I thought they would have one of the most complete teams.”
