Fiorentina Coach Vincenzo Montella says his recent comments about referees have been misunderstood by the media.

The Viola tactician added that as a result of this neither he nor anyone else at the club would discuss match officials any longer.

“I am living a paradox,” Montella told Sky Sport. “In three years as a Coach I have never contested a refereeing decision because I don’t think that is the right thing to do.

“Together with the club, we have decided that we not talk about referees anymore.

“We must improve our behaviour on the pitch and only focus on giving good performances, it’s all we can do.

“I specifically said after the Parma match that we were starting to be badly perceived, but I meant it as a warning to the players who were protesting too much against the referees, not the referees themselves.

“I say things to try to make things better and then they are used against me!”
