Vincenzo Montella reassured Gianluigi Donnarumma after Milan’s stalemate with Pescara. “The race for Europe is not over.”

The 18-year-old goalkeeper allowed a Gabriel Paletta back-pass to bounce over his foot into the empty net at the Stadio Adriatico and Mario Pasalic clawed back an equaliser.

“Towards the end we created three or four important chances and we didn’t make the most of them,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“Towards the end we created three or four important chances and we didn’t make the most of them,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“Today pride was not enough, we just needed to move the ball around faster. We got stretched out, Pescara did well. It’s a draw that we accept and look to the next games with optimism.

“Mistakes can happen. Gigio needs to relax. If we had won the game, we would’ve had a laugh about it. There was a misunderstanding, Paletta was being pressed and Donnarumma was in the right position, he just got the first touch wrong.”

Milan’s chances of making the Europa League are now less impressive, as this weekend Lazio and Atalanta both won, while Inter face Sampdoria tomorrow night.

“The race for Europe is not over, but I hope that those above us in the table think it is. I am convinced we’ll be in it to the very end. We lost one set, to use a tennis term, but there are others still to be played.”
