Vincenzo Montella has advised Adem Ljajic to stay at Fiorentina after Milan sent a formal €8m offer.

The striker is out of contract in June 2014 and reportedly already agreed terms with the Rossoneri, who today sent a fax making their €8m proposal official.

“Ljajic had been criticised in the past, but the fans are very close to him and would be happy if he stays,” said Montella after a 4-1 friendly win over Gaziantepspor.

“Ljajic tells everyone he wants to stay, but that is not enough. He ought to remain with us for the sake of his growth process. I have already given him my advice, based on my experience.”

Fiorentina have impressed in pre-season with new star buys including Mario Gomez, Josip Ilicic and Joaquin.

“I have to say the training camp at Moena has been extremely positive for the work rate. The newcomers have settled in well, but can do even better. Joaquin is not at full fitness, but is an extraordinary player.”

Ex-Palermo creative midfielder Ilicic complained this week that he doesn’t like the new central position tested out in training.

“We certainly can’t change system just for him. He told me he doesn’t like playing wide in a 4-3-3 either, so that leaves precious few options for him.”
