Fiorentina welcome Lazio on Sunday and Vincenzo Montella sets the Aquile up as “an example” for them to follow.

They are two of the revelations this season under new management and go head-to-head at the Stadio Franchi. Click here for a match preview.

“Lazio are a strong and experienced side who give no reference points, especially in midfield,” said Montella in his Press conference.

“They are a mature team and have been together for some time. Lazio know how to attack and be clinical too. This club is an example to follow for any side that wants to join the top tier. Of course it’d be nice to close up the gap.

“Is it a derby for me? It’s not exactly a team that I like, even if as a Roma player I had great moments against them. I don’t feel as if it is a derby.

“I want us to take control of the game and not seek alibis or appeal against refereeing errors. We must do better than against Chievo, both mentally and tactically.”

Either Adem Ljajic or Luca Toni should start alongside Stevan Jovetic, while David Pizarro and Facundo Roncaglia are suspended.

“I often talk to Stevan and he must use this year to mature. We often forget he is only 22 and at his age can make mistakes. He is doing well and always puts himself at the service of the team. In a way we hope he reaches full maturity a little late, otherwise they’ll come and take him away…” smiled Montella.

“Stevan has to see more of the ball, as often he goes too deep. He should touch the ball and then run back up to attack.

“Someone will replace Pizarro in midfield and Borja Valero understands the situation. He can read all the variations on the field, sometimes better than many Coaches.”
