Vincenzo Montella confirmed Fiorentina “need” reinforcements after Giuseppe Rossi’s injury, as Alessandro Matri is an option.

The weekend began with a sour note, as news from America revealed Rossi has also suffered some damage to the anterior cruciate ligament as well as the previously ascertained collateral medial ligament.

More surgery is possible, though more will only be known in three weeks’ time when there is a new check-up in Colorado.

“We need patience to figure out what could happen. I hope that it is not too serious,” said Coach Montella in today’s Press conference.

“The club will do everything to find what is needed to improve this squad. A lot will depend on what the market has to offer. There aren’t many opportunities to replace players like Rossi or Mario Gomez.

“We know it’s tough in January, but I am sure our directors will try to cover their absence in every way possible. I have confidence, even though I am well aware nobody will do us any favours.”

It’s reported Milan could have the key in the form of Matri, who received an offer from West Bromwich Albion but is eager to remain in Serie A.

“We have very clear ideas on the forward we are looking for. Matri? I don’t like discussing individual players. I am concentrated more on tomorrow’s game,” said Montella.

Fiorentina visit high-flying Torino on Sunday at 11.30 GMT, click here for a match preview.

“We must be wary of Torino and ensure we are not unprepared. Toro know how to control a game, while Ciro Immobile and Alessio Cerci combine brilliantly. They can change a match at any moment.

“Our style of football generally allows a lot of space to our opponents, which can be a risk against the Granata, but we certainly cannot change our approach just for them.

“With so many players out injured, I expect everyone to take a bigger share of the responsibility. Absences could be considered an alibi for me, but I don’t want any.”
