Milan boss Vincenzo Montella has described his “ideal striker” and believes M’Baye Niang still has what it takes “to become a top player”.

Milan have made no secret of their desire to sign another forward, with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Andrea Belotti linked, while Niang remains a Rossoneri player, despite speculation that he could make way for new arrivals.

“The bar has been raised very high. Take Niang for example, he had a brilliant match against Bayern,” the Coach told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He has a very important profile and can become a top player, but he needs to manage when things are going well.

“There’s no reason not to believe in M’Baye, but it depends more on him.

“Our Chinese owners are very respectful of roles, which is unusual in football. And our duty is to be highly competitive.

“The President’s approach is great, he’s always there to thank us. The other night, he asked me to keep bringing forth Milan’s spirit and I was amazed. The team also perceive this.

“The market? Our main focus is on a striker, then a winger and a central midfielder, but there’s no rush like before.

“The ideal striker? He has to combine several things. He needs to have instinct, be a handful and know how to play for the team.”
