Montella has received unequivocal backing from new Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso, but the fact remains the Coach has yet to win any of his 10 Serie A games back in charge.

“First of all, I’m glad that Sarri will be back in the dugout,” he said at a Press conference for tomorrow’s clash with Juventus.

“We’ve often crossed paths during our careers. It’s a pleasure to face him again. I’m motivated and confident, I want to work and I can finally do it with the whole squad.

“Ribery is strong, he’s fine and – until proven otherwise – he’ll be a starter. The Bianconeri have lost only 8 percent of their games in the last eight years, winning 70%.

“They play at 1,000mph, but great stories come from impossible games. We must play with conviction so we can write the first page of a new chapter in our history.

“Coaches are assessed on what they do. You have to let me work because not until now have I had a full squad to work with. I’m as calm as can be.

“I continue to feel the club’s faith and I feel it so much. I talk to the directors every day.

“For me, a change would be crazy. There’s no reason to do it. We’ve changed 18 players, I feel the complete faith of everyone and, I repeat, I’m calm.”

The former Milan boss was then asked about Franck Ribery, who is preparing to face old rival Cristiano Ronaldo, and fellow new signing Pedro.

“It’s a game within a game. They’re two players who play the same role and have won a lot in their careers.

“However, they won’t decide the match for that reason. As for Pedro, he has great desire and physical quality.

“In terms of fitness, he’s a bit behind his teammates.”
