Roma director Monchi warns today’s meeting with Fiorentina is “equally as important” as the Champions League quarter-final with Barcelona.

“We always try to work and make the team stronger every year. We have solid foundations and the Barcelona match, aside from the result, proved that Roma are at this level both in the present and in future,” the director of sport told Mediaset Premium.

“Now we must focus on the present, because there are some important games coming up in these final weeks of the season.”

Although the Giallorossi lost 4-1 at Camp Nou in that first leg of the quarter-final, they did impress and could’ve scored more.

“The team wasn’t happy about the result at Camp Nou, but got some fresh air and thought about today’s game, which is equally as important.

“We are on the right track and the squad believes in its potential.”

Monchi was asked about reports Roma were negotiating with agent Mino Raiola for Mario Balotelli, whose Nice contract expires in June.

“We met Raiola to discuss Luca Pellegrini’s contract and we’re getting there. We talked about nothing else.”
