Henrikh Mkhitaryan hopes to extend his contract with Inter and insists the Nerazzurri are not thinking about Romelu Lukaku’s Roma being only focused on the upcoming Champions League fixture against RB Salzburg.

The Serie A giants host Salzburg on Tuesday in their third Champions League group-stage game this season.

“We know we didn’t start well against Real Sociedad but did well against Benfica. Hopefully, we can do the same tomorrow and continue our path,” Mkhitaryan said at a press conference on Monday.

“We don’t look at the Serie A table, because the season is long. Now we play in the Champions League and it’s a different competition. We proved against Benfica that we want to do well and tomorrow we’ll do anything to win.”

The Armenian’s contract expires at the end of the season, does he hope to extend his stay beyond 2024?

“I feel well here, in the team and the city. I am doing my best to help my teammates,” he said.

“I do my work on the pitch and my agent is in charge of the rest. I feel well, I work hard and I’d like to stay. Let’s see what happens.

“Speaking to the coach before joining Inter I said I would do anything to help the team. I am always available for anything, then the coach decides whether I play or not. I’ve never been a defensive player but playing as a Mezzala I do everything to help the team in attack and defence.”

However, with Marko Arnautovic injured, Mkhitaryan could sometimes be deployed closer to the goal.

“I’ve already played as an attacking midfielder and I like it. I will always try to help the team,” he said.

Inter will host Lukaku’s Roma in the next Serie A game on Sunday, but the Nerazzurri will focus on one game at a time.

“We are preparing for tomorrow’s game to give our best,” insisted Mkhitaryan.

“We know Salzburg are a strong side, we already played them in the pre-season. We play in front of our fans and we want to win, then we’ll focus on Roma.”
