Simone Missiroli explains Sassuolo Coach Roberto De Zerbi “told me I wasn’t part of his plans” but “I’ve found almost the same climate here at Spal”.

The 32-year-old played for the Neroverdi for seven seasons, including two in Serie B, but was allowed to leave this summer when the new Coach arrived.

“I really appreciated De Zerbi’s clarity,” Missiroli insisted, speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He came to me and he told me very honestly that I wasn’t part of his plans. He was sincere.

“Sassuolo was part of my life for years, and I’ll never forget my goal which won us promotion to Serie A and the dressing room that year.

“It was superb, I’m still firm friends with everyone. I still play ‘Fortnite’ with [Domenico] Berardi, [Francesco] Cassata and [Andrea] Consigli. We have great battles.

“I have to say though that I’ve found almost the same climate here at Spal.”

Missiroli was even linked to Milan a few years ago, was there any truth in that?

“No. I was close to Fiorentina a few years ago though. Paulo Sousa wanted me, but [Eusebio] Di Francesco wouldn’t let me go.”
