Bonucci had reportedly grown disillusioned with Milan’s inability to compete at the top of Serie A, fuelling links with Real Madrid and Manchester City, but Mirabelli made it clear the defender was staying put.

“We went through quite a difficult period, but we started the New Year well,” he told Gr Parlamento.

“We’re still competing on three fronts. Bonucci had a great performance against Crotone.

“The result seems to be the measuring stick, but we created a lot, even though we only scored one goal.

“We’re improving physically. Leo’s difficulties were felt by everyone. He won two major trophies last season.

“Compared to other players, he cost little. Bonucci’s not for sale. We signed so many players by making sacrifices, and it’s our intention to go forward with them.

“A team can never be built in a single window… we have a low average age. When we talk about signings, we must also remember how many players we sold.

“The market has been doped. There are crazy figures being floated about, but we’ve signed players at the right price and their value has stayed the same.

“We also tied Cutrone, Donnarumma and Calabria, players that we’re counting on a lot, to new contracts.”
